bikealps
this time my photo is not from a bike race... not that there haven't been plenty of bike races lately... :-)

instead it is from my days as an aspiring nature photographer... there is no EXIF data on the slide mount, but I took it in July 1992, and scanned it in this week with a 5000 ED scanner (thanks to everybody for the help in getting the scanner to work with 64-bit Windows 7)

looking at all these old slides convinces me just how much our tools have advance in the past 20 years... no dust, no scratches or bubbles in emulsions, sharper photos, better (usable) AF, post-capture cropping and photo editing, better lenses, higher ISO

phil_burt
All great Photos I will come back later and show the ones that caught my attention.
**A Special note to those from Japan and those that have Family and Friends there, I deeply feel for the pain you are having and have all of you in my Prayers every day.**
- Matt your photo of Blanton Bourbon was so sharp and clear it "almost" made me want a little, but can't as I quit all drinking a while back .... but it sure is a beauty.
My subject today is a little girl, Isabella, from the Church I go to. I have been trying some portrait stuff so I am just in the early learning stages. Isabella is so easy to photograph as she loves to be in front of the camera and takes direction very well.
I used my Nikon D90, 24-70@44mm, 1/60, iso 400 and 2 speed lights. 1 bare mostly focused on her right back side on the back drop the other angled in front slightly to her left using an umbrella with a sheet in front of it making it a real cheap soft box. I did do some processing in PS. Cropped, made B/W and painted back in the red, some contrast and I'm thinking thats about all.
Hope that you like it.
phil b
benton, ky

bikealps
Doug Rice -- I love your running photo. Blur/pan shots are tricky and yours hits that delicate balance of sharpness and blur. It really conveys the motion, using two runners illustrates the competitiveness, and the sharpness in the face lets you see the emotion. Good shot!

my other favorites:

Aguinaldo de Paula's bird

Apurua Madia's street portrait

James Kazan's architecture shot -- where was it?

Anish Mankuthel's venice shot

lisae
Last week was Spring Break. Unfortunately, instead of having fun with my kids, I spent the week dealing with a sick Border Collie. Fortunately, we quickly found the problem - he ate a LOT of stuff he shouldn't have, including a tennis ball - and he is recovering. The stitches come out Monday but, if you ask him, he would say he's ready to go.

Peter, I'm so sorry for your loss. Finney looks like a wonderful companion.

jamie_burris
I think I got it this time, thanks so much Doug.
Good Morning all. Signs of spring are starting to show here in northern Canada. I now know why they call this a Bronzed Grackle, the sun light reflecting off the spruce tree highlighted the birds iridescent coat. They usually look solid black.
Great shots everyone. Rick D and Jeannean B, assume. peter_simpson1
@Lisa: We had a Bernese who ate a tennis ball, which obstructed his digestive tract. The morning before his operation, they found the tennis ball pieces in his cage. Smart dog...saved us a bunch of money. Peter -- so sorry to hear of your loss.
