I never feel comfortable starting a picture of the week, but it's almost 2 AM EST in the USA.
Anyway, on Friday I Cross Country skied the Mt Vanhoevenberg Olympic ski trails for about 10 miles or so and then headed into the village of Lake Placid for a burger as I was famished and then decided to roam around. I didn't bring my Pentax skiing as I knew at my age I needed to go as light as possible. But while walking around the city I did bring my K10D.This was surely a really smart decision. The trails weren't tough, but older legs, well...
On Justin's thread recently we talked about pick-up games of football, hockey etc. Well, on the Lake, there was a pick-up hockey game going on... I had my K10D and Tamron 18-250 lens...

I blew the exposure totally, not the 'Miracle On Ice', but got an interesting result.

Interesting high key scene. I kinda like it. Is this on the lake itself?

Did you go to Lake Placid Pub and Brewery? I convinced my sister to spend a weekend in the Adirondacks by bribing her with at least a night of Ubu Ales after some hiking! She was evasive on a late April date after I changed our early April to get us more snowless options (my guess is something more interesting is going on in late april, it will eventually come out why I was being blown off).

I'm going to go with our chinchilla Ande, he had to be euthanized this week after developing malocclusion of the teeth. Rodents teeth continuously grow and they require chewing toys to keep this from becoming a problem, unfortunately a small percent are caused a congenital defect where the roots are involved and cause the chinchilla to stop chewing, creating problems on both sides of the tooth. Had we had his teeth filed down he'd have probably died in 6 months anyway. The problem with prey animals is they tend to hide sickness very well until the end. Now he is resting eternally next to (most) of Caney on the book shelf.

Little Ande
<a title="R.I.P Ande 4/2003-2/2011" href="
Either Pentax Program Plus or PZ-1P and Kodak T400CN (now discontinued c41 B&W). No idea what lens!

I thought those jagged wiskers were a sharpening issue, but this actually is pretty common for a 2003 era digital compact.

Yes, and yes...I stopped for an Ubu and a burger...Figured I better walk for a bit before the drive home, so grabbed my camera and right across from the brew pub they were playing hockey...My other shots with more correct exposure were dull and uninteresting...It's niceto plan a shot/exposure, but I guess sometimes unplanned images are better...The burger hit the spot btw...
In retrospect, hauling the camera around skiing may have proven fruitful as I was passed by Olympic medalist Tim Burke. He blew past me gracefully with a smile and how ya doin' on an extreme straight uphill on the Porter Mt Loop. He glided, I was practically walking uphill. Might have been an interesting shot.
Javiers's shots are getting more and more interesting and exciting.
Justin..Sorry once again for your loss.

The Island Art Opening in Seattle on Thursday night was a lot of fun. About 80 pieces in a huge space that allowed some massive iron sculptures to breathe. Lots of visitors, and great live music. I haven't yet checked about sales for anyone.
We spent most of our time touring the studios of the 183 artists who work out of this funky 5 story brick building. Each floor snakes and meanders all over, and studios are discovered in very unexpected places. My son loved it. Wonderful and strange and urbane.

A friend and I wondered around taking iPhone photos and drinking wine and eating mac and cheese. This is one of my favorite shots of the old freight elevator (which is used) from above.

Our January was nicer than February. Finally today, a hint of incoming Spring.

Wow, Javier, a hat-trick of sixers, as we say in cricket!

My lone submission this week, again from the Kolkata Feb 2011 series. The stuff being fried in a deep cooking pot are kachouries or small whole-wheat pancakes stuffed with vegetables, mostly sweet peas and spices; popular all over north India as breakfast. Eaten with vegetable curry and chutney made of tomato, dates and mint.

G'day - has been awhile - somewhat preoccupied with lots in life. Including moving and some floods in sunny Queensland.
Have still enjoyed what everyone has been putting up and continue to learn from each of you.
Javier - you have caught some of humanity's best expressions!
Two contribute at the moment. One from the floods - fresh barramundi flowed over one of the dam walls and washed up dead on the beach. It was shot from my little Panasonic Lumix (take in my pocket camera).

00YLFp-337551784.jpg.8955cae7a693b791f084773b331d7582.jpg

We live in a land of contrasts - in one day it could be 40 degrees (celcius) in one place and 3 in another (with snow), it can flood one side, and the other side be in drought and fires (or the same state can be that way too).
In Western Australia - it's been hot and dry. This lake is usually full of water. But not after the weather we've had.

Javier - The "Not Amused" is funny, not that I'd want to be the object of that look! You caught her in a model pose - body torqued away and she's looking at you. She's also in a boxer's stance, ready. Except that her feet are reversed - she'd fall over her front foot! I tried playing with her expression, a bit, in PSE6, to turn up the corners of her mouth and raise her eyebrows. It would have changed the mood but possibly less interesting.
I can't wait until the warmer weather - it's been getting warmer, but people still have their winter faces on.

While in Montreal last week, not for the happiest reasons in the world, I had one day to drive around and take some pictures. It is still winter over there and it snowed almost everyday. The photos herein shows how Canadians in that region of the Country do not let winter take over their life. They are active in the winter just as we are here in California in the summer.

00YLMc-337627584.jpg.aa4200869561552c4b3ad71cebee937f.jpg
