shots worth sharing
I haven't shot much other than basketball lately but we had a winter weather event last night so I wandered around a bit with the K-5 and FA 50 2.8 Macro this morning. I didn't get the 'killer' shot I'd hoped for but I kind of liked these.

Think, "Ice on..."

Nandina

Straw Flower

Spider Web

Grass

Peony Husk

andy_coach
The 2nd pic (Straw Flower) made me think of things trapped in amber, great shot.
MattB.Net
Very nice! I also found it was harder than I had expected to get that killer shot after something like this. But yours are pretty nice! The second and last are my faves. And maybe the web too...
michael_kuhne
Very nice! Good thing to have a nice outfit like yours- what else can one enjoy outside with all that ice? I like the last two best. Shots like these greatly involve point of focus. I think the first shot would have been extra-nice if your focus point were on the bottom ice drop- or a smaller aperture for more focus points..

shots worth sharing
Thanks for the responses, folks! I think what eluded me was the vantage point for a really striking composition. I was willing to go to knees and elbows for some of these but wasn't about to belly-crawl in those conditions (I know I'm a wimp ;~) Good critique Michael--I stopped down quite a bit for for some of these (f9 for the grass) but the Nandina was at f3.5 and weak for that reason.
michael_kuhne
I sympathize, Dave. Maybe someday we'll see offered a midget tripod with a larger-than-live-view adjustable mirror spotter! Or an on-boot camera mount with a downward periscope finder extension!

raybrizzi
straw flower and peony are wonderful. that little darker spot in the bottom right should go, it takes away from the abstraction of the flower against a pure white
