Opinions of MF Lenses on my Panny G2

Bear in mind that Nikon G lenses do not have an aperture ring; their apertures can only be adjusted electronically. Novoflex offers a rather expensive mount adapter that provides aperture control, but most adapters do not, making G lenses fairly useless.

I don't really see the point, for the most part, in adapting autofocus lenses to other cameras. You end up having to focus manually anyway, and autofocus lenses usually don't offer as pleasant or precise a manual focusing experience as real manual focus lenses.

For G Nikkor, Nikon has a F to C converter that let you control aperture as well.

I don't have first-hand experience with this adapter, but from what I can see online, I don't think that's true. For example, a customer review at B&H's web site says: "The little silver button allows you to preview depth of field on all F-mount lenses. It does NOT allow you to set F-stop on F-mount lenses that do not have an aperture ring." DOF preview is pretty useless if you have no way to select an aperture in the first place.

I tried a couple of my MF Nikkors (105mm F2.5, 28-50mm zoom), on a GF1 via Voigtlander adapter and did not find it a pleasant experience. I returned the adapter. Too spoiled by AF. Post a few of you photos taken with MF lenses if possible, always curious about odd combos and how they perform.

Some first-hand experience for the OPS, the Nikon F to C adapter aperture lever has a 7mm thread. you can modify it easiler to adjust aperture. Also check out the old Olympus pen-F 38/1.8 and 40mm/1.4, those are cool.

Hey, if focus and metering is too much work already, yup, these won't work.

Aside from the "clumsiness" of manual focus, Ai or Ai-s 105/2.5 works nicely with my G1, so it probably does on your G2.

So far as I know, Japanese Rayqual and German Novoflex make Nikon-F to m4/3 mount adapters that feature aperture rings that allow you to set the apertures of G lenses manually. The aperture ring on the Rayqual one has click stops, too. I guess some Chinese manufacturers on ebay make ones, too.

I cannot say anything in terms of the performance of Series E 50/1.8 or Minolta MD 135/2.8. My Ai50/1.8 performs marvellously on my G1, though.
