sumo_kun
What is the colour of the rest of the lens? It looks like the front ring might just be worn though the paint.
Also I can't tell the colour of the front because it looks like a reflection...
There was a gold version but you would probably know it was a gold version from first sight ;)
q.g._de_bakker
Maybe the previous owner likes the 'silver nose' look.
Maybe Zeiss did?
Olympus, and i believe Nikon and Canon sold 'silver nosed' lenses for a while.

chuck_foreman1
Well I don't know how to tell the year of manufacture from the serial number. I have seen the Yashica FX-D in both silver and black so I can only suspect they made both types. As QC said, silver nosed lenses came from other manufacturers too! Mine is black and has the serial number 6058698. I bet I haven't shot with his lens in over 5 years. I've been distracted with so many other cameras. I shot this a lot when my kids were babies (93-99) and it delivered very nice contrast and beautiful OOFareas. The Planar is just great for this kind of work! Didn't you already have a 50mm MM lens? This is clearly not an MM lens so whatever program function that wasn't working on that lens probably isn't going to work with this one either.
