mjc photographic images
I Filmed a Sparrow Hawk eating a Pidgeon for 7 minutes 15 seconds but got bored and stopped, so I don't know how much longer I could have gone for. ilya_e
If you will be shooting in 1080p then max clip length is about 12 minutes/4GB. That applies to both 7D and 5DII. Also, note that 7D tends to get really warm after prolong video shooting. Even after 1 continuous clip of 12 minutes you will feel that it is much warmer. If you are planning to shoot unattended I suggest you reconsider. Overheating is never good and if you are not there to check on the camera it can do some damage.

yakim_peled1
Ilya, the 7D manual states max 4GB or 29 minutes and 59 seconds for a large card (I have 32GB one). About temperature, I'll not be the one shooting but I'll be around.

JC, this is a very informative video. Thanks for posting it.

Happy shooting,

Yakim.

ilya_e
29m59m for SD shooting. HD takes a lot more and limit is at 12 minutes/4GB per clip. Does not matter if you have 32GB card, you will have to click the button every 12 minutes.
Nice link JC, thanks

zac williams www.williams
I've run right into the 12 minute limit several times shooting 1080 30p. I've shot 2.5 hours continuously, starting and stopping every 11 minutes or so. There was a CF card change out in there as well. Use a fast CF card and the camera won't heat as much.
yakim_peled1

Soon after I bought the 7D I bought the fastest CF available: 90 MB/s. I didn't think I'd need that at the time but I follow the motto that I don't want my gear to limit me in any way. I have enough limitations of my own....... :-)

Happy shooting,

Yakim.
