POTW 8-29-10

<p>Well, I'll start things this week. Last weekend I attended the Wheels of Italy automobile and motorcycle show here in Minneapolis. I wasn't looking to take photos of vehicles, but rather of the people in attendance. People photos are not an easy thing for me to capture, but at an event like this, every third person has a camera at the ready, so except for a few shots I was largely ignored. All K20D, Pentax F 35-70mm, cropped and converted to BW.<br>

<p>It looks like this is going to be a really fun POW! BTW, I'm with you, Steve--I feel a whole lot more comfortable shooting people at a public event like that. </p>

<p>I've been working my butt off this week trying to get some decent hummingbird but haven't gotten anything I'm really happy with yet (even for "on-a-stick" shots) so here's a mess of B&Ws from this past week.</p>

<p>I went back to the same place as ten days ago but found slim pickings for butterfly shots. It has been so hot and dry in SW Ohio that this is the only place in the 13 miles I hiked this week that had activity. The thistle is about gone. Only about 10% keepers, but I liked this one.</p><div></div>

<p>Last week I got to do some "insecting" as well. It was my first time using my extension tubes, so I had a fair number of issues with exposure and focus, however I was able to get a few I like.</p><div></div>

<p>This last shot was done using both the 360 and 540 flash guns in sync with the 540 at 2/3 power and the 360 at 1/3 power using wireless with the on-board flash as the controller.</p>

<p>Hi folks...Great stuff. I have enjoyed it very much and Steve....Much respect for getting out there and doing it!. I will check out your blog as well. <br>

I will comment on Photos Tuesday when all are in. As for me. I have managed to get out a little bit. Cane and all and walking a snail pace and not very far, but heck, I am out. So here some of what I saw this past week.</p>

<p>Ok. I was at Persian square in DT-LA. when I saw this fellow across the street. He was 6 stories high and it lined up pretty good to where I was at. I climbed on top of the wall and positioned my G9 on some rocks. Composed and set the timer to 2 sec and let it go. I am pretty sure ISO is 800 which usually never works in the G9. Still, I really like the image. I used Topaz denois v5 and converted to black and white and added grain in CS5 <br>

<p>Canon G9 isn't allowed on their POTW thread? What's that say when a Canon board snubs a Canon camera? Maybe I'll dig out my old A700 P&S and try to sneak in a shot... Shhh, don't tell.</p>
