h._p.
Re-watching "Superman", I've just realised that Jimmy Olsen's camera in the office scene is a Praktica L series. Who would have thought that such a lowly camera would make it into the props cupboard of such a big budget film?
I've spotted a few other "Cheap" cameras in movies. "Sky Pilot and the World of Tomorrow" featured an Argus as a plot device and the Exacta was a central prop in "Rear Window" (although I'll grant that the Ihagee product probably wasn't that cheap in the 'fifties).
:-)))
Has anyone else spotted this economical trend in the film world?
JDMvW
The brands of things used be hidden in the days of Rear Window, but Exakta did use it in their advertising at the time. It's amazing in the days of Superman that there wasn't a "product placement". Maybe Canon and Nikon turned them down?
I'll have to hunt up Olsen's camera, being a Praktica person, that is. Thanks for the heads up. :)

frank.schifano
I don't think the use of a Practica was accidental in the making of the Superman movie at all. Remember, they were going for kind of a vintage/modern hybrid look to that film, and the Practica fit the bill almost perfectly.
cj8281
In the movie U571 one of the Americans shot a picture of the control room of the German sub using an Argus C3 with an edison base flash bulb flash.
ridinhome
Well, guess you can't miss the Canonet QL17 (or was it the Canonet 28) in Pecker.
bc_fuchs
Argus C3 (Matchmatic, IIRC) in Harry Potter 2 . . . or is that too obvious to mention . . . :>)
