singh-ray polarizer for "P" mount?

Hello all-

In order to simplify several different filter sizes with one filter

set, I was considering the Singh-Ray Polarizer for the Cokin "P"

mount. I am hoping this will solve some vignetting I get on a couple

of wide angle lenses. My 21/3.5 Zuiko vignettes even with a Heliopan

slim Pola- The 45/2.8 Mamiya 645 lens also vignettes with a standard

size B+W Pola.

I already use the ND Grads from Singh-Ray (and like em), but have

never used a "round" set up in the P-mount.

Anybody have any thoughts on this method? Or should I look at a 77mm

B+W and get a bunch of step up rings? BTW- anybody know of a source

for BRASS step up rings?

I had one of these and had to hacksaw the front two slots off of the P holder in order to use it on a 21mm/f2.8 Minolta MD without vignetting. I sold the polarizer, however, as it kept falling apart on me -- the O-rings that held the glass in the holder had a habit of popping out whenever it was flexed (such as when sliding it into or out of the Cokin holder)-- and while the glass never fell on anything hard enough to break it, I decided that it was only a matter of time before it did and made it someone else's problem instead of mine.

Long ago I standardized on 77 as my filter size of choice. Since doing so, issues such as this one become non-issues. Mnay of the lenses I use are already 77. For those that aren't, I simply "step-up" each lens to 77 and throw on an aftermarket cap (I use Mamiya RB/RZ 67 caps). While this does add a bit of bulk to these lenses, most of mine are 67 or 72 anyway, so it really isn't a big deal. For 35 I carry the two or three step-up rings required to get the lenses to 77. As another plus, I only bother to carry the 77 ring in my Cokin P holders.

Cheers,

I don't think my Zuiko 21/3.5 vignettes with either the Olympus polarizers or the Hoya thin ones. It might be easier just to try to find one of these.

You could look for an Olympus 49 to 72 step up ring that was made specifically for the Zuiko 18.3.5 also and use a 72mm polarizer.

Dane - I have the Singh-Ray circular polarizer and have not been

overwhelmed by it. I too have hacked off the two outermost slots

of my P holder so that I can use my ndgrads with my Pentax

45mm for 67. The SR seems to vignette more quickly than a

traditional thin mount filter. I think mine is the warm tone

polarizer, since I use an 81B quite frequently - I believe the SR is

equivalent of an 81A plus polarizer. I also thought I'd be able to

use it with some 77mm Nikon lenses I have, but it vignettes on

those, as well. You can have mine if you want - make me an

offer!
