<p>Sounds about right. It will certainly be interesting to see if it will deliver as well as their very nice 50/1.4 HSM.</p>

<p>The Canon 85 1.8 is already priced very right (cheaper than $600) and has the tops focus system: ring USM. <br>

Would the Sigma be all that much better?</p>

<p>The Sigma will be 2/3 stops faster than the Canon 85/1.8. It has HSM, which is Sigma's version of USM. I have a couple HSM lenses and, for speed and noise level, they're just about as good as USM. I have the 85/1.8 and it's an excellent lens, but if the Sigma 85/1.4 is well reviewed I'll be tempted to upgrade.</p>

<p>There is a void between the 1.8 and the 1.2, about a $1400 void. I am surprised no one has come up with a good solution all these years. Zeiss has a MF version and so does vivitar. But, eh...</p>

<p dir="ltr">My biggest concern is AF accuracy. I had the 50/1.4 (AKA Sigmalux) and found it to be optically superb. Nevertheless, after two calibrations I gave up and sold it. What can I say? I don't like MF.</p>

<p>HSM is a notch below the ring USM.<br>

1.4 v. 1.8 on an 85mm... no big deal at all. The lens AF system is paramount.</p>
