mrfitz
I'm considering buying a pocket camera that I can carry at all times. But the multiple prefixes that are used by each brand are driving me crazy. Is there anyplace that has a database of these prefixesand their meanings? It would make it easier when starting to campare items.

mrfitz
For instance, Panasonic Lumix has the following series of cameras designated by prefix F, FH, FP, FX, G, GF, GH, LX, TS, ZR, and ZS. I assume those prefixes aren't drawn out of a hat. So what do they mean?
phule
Most people search for cameras based on their photographic requirements and how much they want to spend.

peter_mounier
Ok, you mean suffix. Prefix comes before the name, suffix comes after. Check out this wikipedia entry

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lumix

Peter
vrankin
The manufacturer's Websites class the cameras according to the prefixes, with explanations of their distinguishing characteristics. This would work, if you want to search by brand rather than by features as Rob suggested. Otherwise, I agree with his reply.
phil_hughes
I have the same, legitimate question that Craig has already posed.
What DO those Lumix prefixes mean?
The only one I've seen decoded is 'TZ', which stands for 'Travel Zoom'.

"I think Volkswagons are best", is not a helpful response.

Phil H.
