kevin_b.2
These are the rules for entering this competition. It has my interest. But notice this line,
http://www.leica-oskar-barnack-award.com/#/en/applying/contest-rules
"the photos I am entering are neither photomontage nor have been manipulated by digital or other
means,"
What does that mean? So I can't crop, capture sharpen, creative sharpen, output sharpen, make black and white, adjust white balance, or adjust exposure. Wow.
So if I took the photo as a RAW I am pretty much SOL?
I guess my point is, when is it considered digital "manipulation" and when is it a standard process.
carbon_dragon
After that contest with the wolf and the natural history museum, it seems all the more important to understand the rules.
JDMvW
Since it specifies "or other means" it would seem to me that most of Ansel Adams's prints would be excluded, as would be any gum bichromate prints or many other pictorialist pictures of the early days of photography.

It's possible, I suppose, that they may mean exactly that, as this argument about "manipulation" goes back to the dawn of the field, not just since digital imagery came into the fold. More likely, they just mean no processes that don't have a direct analog in the darkroom, with film, or filters. It's very poorly worded and even more poorly thought out.

Isn't there some song, "I'm a dodger, you're a dodger too!"? And what about the Artful Dodger in Dickens?

john tonai
At the top right part of the page is a link called "Contact". If you have a question like this ask them. They set the rules. We can only guess.
r_johnston
Why not make a call and ask exactly what the do mean?
Only if someone here was entering the same contest, and had in previous years, could they give a close to meaningful answer.
