Donation Cause

<p>Hi,<br>

I am donating my photographic services to an organization to fund money for a conquering children's cancer.<br>

They told me this trendy Atlanta magazine would be at the event. My question is: if they want to publish my photo(s) on their magazine, should I just give it to them or sell it. Because this function is for donation purposes, I don't really know what is appropriate.<br>

<p>Trish:<br /> <br /> Entirely up to you. I'd charge the magazine and then donate the amount they pay to the charity you're helping out. Or, ask the magazine to pay double what they normally pay but pay it directly to the charity as a donation. That way the charity gets a bigger donation and the magazine gets to deduct the fee as a charitable contribution.</p>

<p>Keep in mind that you can't deduct more than hard costs (i.e., materials not labor) from your taxes. So you may be better if they pay you and you donate the money.<br>

<p>I've done this at times and it works out well. A secondary benefit is I'm out of the loop insofar as the money is concerned so I don't have to keep track of it for tax purposes.</p>
