anandacapetown
Hi there, Who would you regard as the top macro photographer in his/her field?
Mary Doo
Maria Zorn. No question in my mind, she is a genius. She is not computer savvy and all her work were shot in film. Her work looked "digitally manipulated" when such terminologies were nonexistent. I believe her equipment consists only of a camera and no more than 2-3 lenses. Unfortunately for the world (and fortunately for her), she is retired. The info on her website is outdated.
bob_sunley
That's almost like asking who has the best house in the world. :) Most people practicing macro photgraphy are doing it as part of their profession. Have a look at the Nikon Small World Contest to see some pretty good examples of macro photography. http://www.nikonsmallworld.com/

GerrySiegel
I like much of the closeup work by UK photographer Heather Angel. She is one of the top, by my reckoning. Here is a short piece she wrote on how to approach flowers in the field. She has many books and articles and some workshops:
http://www.naturephotographers.net/articles0407/ha0407-1.html

anandacapetown
Thank you for your response! Had a look at all the sites and must say all of it really impressive. You are right Bob, when I through that question in, I knew it was pretty wide....:) Thanks for the link though. Excellent photography on all the sites you have given me. Love the lightstalkers - lots of information! Heather Angel is amazing. Mary, you are right, can you imagine if Maria Zorn were to embrace digital post processing - it would have had some pretty spectacular results, amazing. Your work is amazing too! Thanks again Ananda
