robert_kennedy
So I've been playing with my 545 back lately and have been seriously considering using it in the field to proof my shots. The only thing is, as I have been devising different methods of transport for my new 4x5 gear, I can't really figure out a good way to carry 4x5 polaroid film. My sheet film is easy. I have 7 holders. Just load them up in a side pocket and go. The holders protect the film. But polaroid film has that nice, delicate little capsule of developer gel which I can easily feel on the end of each envelope. In fact it TELLS me to be very careful with that envelope so I don't pop the capsule. Which tends to send my mildly paranoid mind into a tailspin with visions of me setting my pack down wrong and ruining $30.00 worth of film in a go (Yes, I am cheap....). The box the stuff comes in is very flimsy and pretty useless at protecting the film. I just can't seem to figure out a simple and safe way to carry multiple sheets of this stuff around. So the question is, what do you do? Any cheap, easy to impliment ideas out there?
ellis_vener_photography
I use Fuji QuickLoad boxes. i can easily get 20+ sheets ber sturdy box. I f you don't use the Quickload system your lab should at least one or two empty ones laying around.
eugene_singer
Robert, check out the assortment of Rubbermaid containers at your local Wal-Mart. They are lightweight, relatively inexpensive, and really do the job. There are several soft pouches that are custom-made to hold Polaroid backs. Check with Calumet, if you are interested. light-zone
Robert: I've carried polaroid sheet film on commercial jobs for many years without any special protection, and have not had one intance of damaged material. Those "pouches" aren't as fragile as you might think. If you have the space, then I agree with Eugene and look for the tupperware. Another idea just came to me though. How about an empty 8X10" sheet film box. You could probably get two stacks of 10 each side by side. The box would have a large surface dimension than a tupperware, but would be nice and flat though. david_brown1
Like Eugene, I use a rubbermaid container, although I didn't have to go to the store; I found mine in the kitchen (my wife hasn't noticed yet).
tedharris
Like William I ahve carried Polaroid sheet film for years in many sorts of adverse conditions and have never had a problem. it gets no special treatment beyond being careful not to grab and squeeze the pods. Good luck, Ted
