roman_thorn1
Hey all! My 85 1.8 AF D has some really bad green and purple colour fringing. I heavily rely on this lens and have never noticed this before. Is this a common issue with the 1.8 model?
wogears
Define 'really bad'.

Did this start suddenly? If so, the lens has been damaged; if not, and it wasn't a problem before, why worry? It can probably be removed in software.

niccoury
that is definitely something you shouldn't worry about. you're kinda pixel-peeping at this point.

that could be slightly be from having an out-of-focus area that is reflective metal, which will cause a purple/green-ish hue, but I really wouldn't overthink it.

Two23
I saw it with the one I had too. Remember, it has the older coatings. The main problem I had with it was flare and ghosting. I was trying to use it as a general purpose lens though, not for portraits. It didn't work out for me.

Kent in SD
roman_thorn1
Thanks everyone. I was thinking maybe the lens was damaged since i have never noticed the issue. But I think you are right, It's just because the highlighted areas are out of focus. It's a good lens, my most used but I sure would love to see an update. Cheers and Merry X-mas.

leicaglow
I have heard the same, but don't find my sample to have the problem (only in very rare shots into highlighted BG, but very rare, and very minimal). I wonder if there are some bad samples out there.
