katie_herzog

I'm working with a Canon Rebel S 35mm, using TMAX 400 film. After processing the film I see that only half of some of the frames is appearing. Is there a problem with my film, or my camera?
My teacher suggested that it was due to my flash activating, but I just shot a new role making sure there was no flash and the same thing happened.

I really need help! = [
ed_farmer
The flash firing with a high shutter speed would be the most common cause of this problem. The others would be rather unusual. Try making sure that you shutter speed never goes over 1/60. This will make sure that the entire frame is exposed even if the flash goes off.
You really, really, need to make sure that the flash is not firing!
Ed
dpbours
My first feel is that perhaps your mirror is hanging. On the next shot it might be closing properly again. Then again, would that not impact the neighbouring pictures as well?
I don't really see the flash thing. It would have been not so consistently to my opinion.

katie_herzog
Right on the money Peter, I opened the back and found the black tar. While slightly depressing at least I now have a good idea of the problem. Thank you all for your help!
chrisnielsen
It's a good thing then that a lot of the EOS 35mm bodies are dirt cheap nowadays, just have a look on KEH.com (when the site is working that is)
mike_king3
There is a outfit on eBay that sells foam kits to replace light seal and mirror damper foam and a link to a website with how to tutorials that are camera specific on how to fix this so don't throw out your camera.
