w_t1
I saw the VW Eos commerical last night during the Angels-Yankers game. I hear "eos" and looked up thinking was a Canon commercial, but was for VW auto, pronounced and spelled the same way. I always thought there were problems with cars like Probe, Baretta, Escort, lol. I guess the German engineers never heard of EOS, good luck with the lawsuit. Or maybe VW and Canon can team up and give away a Mark IV with the Eos car or vice versa.

Also I saw a "sounds of october" video during a commerical break, shot around the california stadium, went behind a motor driven FILM slr....kinda funny to hear the long whine of a film slr motor drive. Seems like it was set on 4- 5fps, couldnt tell if it was nikon or canon went so fast. I've been searching for the video on mlb.com, I guess there's always the possibility they added film motordrive sound effect to dslr, I've seen that on TV programs.
PuppyDigs
Maybe the new EOS 1D MKIV will have the option of motor drive sound effects. Helps models know when to change pose...
Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
alan_bryant1
Will it also pause every 36 exposures and play a film-rewinding sound? I'd buy that :-)

JDMvW
Earlier today, I found a car called "ASA 1000" (link ). Did Bertone ever do a camera, I wonder? I know Porsche did the Contax RTS.
Canon in some early advertising played on the name as being something like "Electronic Optical System" (it was the "development code name") as well as the "Goddess of Dawn " but I can't find a copy of it right now.
carnagex_carnagex
Canon EOS is an abbreviation for Electro-Optical System, while VW Eos is from a mythological god http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eos Two completely different words and meanings.
douglas_vitello
Maybe Canon can work this connection into their rebate program?A lot of people could use a new car but the last thing most folks need is another printer.
JDMvW

Canon EOS is an abbreviation for Electro-Optical System, while VW Eos is from a mythological god

If you will only look at the Canon site at the "Goddess of Dawn" link above, you will see that they are NOT two completely different things--Canon used both, intentionally.

thomas_chung4
On the other hand, I think that "Rebel" is more suitable for model name of automobile. Canon US, please consider to use 400D, 500D as the rest of the world!
marc_bergman1
"during the Angels-Yankers game"

They are doing pretty good for a bunch of Yankers.

EOS has been a pretty good name for Canon. They zoomed to number 1 position over Nikon.

Volkswagen may overtake Toyota as the number 1 seller of cars.
cjboffoli
I've never really thought about it. But I shoot with a Canon EOS 5DM2 and I drive a 2008 VW Eos Lux. I think there was a short-lived, business class only airline called Eos as well. Never flew it though.
