shaloot
Hello,
What is that white attachment some people put on their flash? Is it to diffuse the light so that you could shoot the flash straight on? But I see most people using that still have their flash heads pointed up/tilted, as if to bounce off the light. Also, what use is that to tilt it up, with the attachment, if they are outdoors?
scott_murphy_photography
It is a basically a light diffuser, the same as bouncing a strobe(s) off the ceiling or a wall. Inside or out, it does help to soften the light somewhat. You can also get air-filled things that fit over the strobe face. The nice thing about a flash that tilts, is it still meters the light, regardless of whether it is bounced or not.
garydem
see above. it is a diffuser. like the stofen omnibounce, $20, which i have. to attach it to your flash and angle it to a 45degree angle and then you shoot. it gives a very soft diffused light. usefull for portraits and weddings, macro work, and similar conditions. it works on a full auto setting just like the flash without the diffuser, but the range to cut to half or just over. the diffuser is similar to bounce flash but even softer and without the problems of the bounce flash, like high or colored ceilings or walls.
