kim yee
I have used sRAW setting in my 5D2 last week to take some photos of a dog.
Upon opening in DPP in my mac, I saw that there's a hot pixel on the dog ear. Prior to this, I have never shoot in sRAW before and I have had no problem what so ever in RAW format.
I took some black photo with the lens cap on, and the pixel is there too (still in sRAW). However, when I took RAW, it's gone again.
Is there a problem with my sensor? or is this somekind of problem witht he sRAW processing? I did a recovery method popular on the net by asking to do a manual sensor cleaning process and leaving the camera in taht mode for 1 mins before switch off and on again. It does clear the problem, but I would like to know is this a common issue with sRAW? or I should stay away from it forever?
Does anyone has this problem, and does the problem revisit after the sensor cleaning method is employed?

Thank you.

allardk
Hi Yee,

I don't know that much about the 5DII, perhaps others can help you better. But I can think of a test you could do: can you shoot SRAW + full-resolution JPEG at the same time? Does that give you a hot pixel in the SRAW but not in the JPEG? That would certainly point to some error in the internal processing.
Other things that can shed some more light on this: Did you try different raw converters than DPP as well? Do you have the latest firmware on your 5DII? Does it happen at all ISOs?
good luck pinpointing the problem, Allard
markonestudios
Good suggestions, Allard. I would be curious to know, as I've just got myself a 5D2 ;-) Hasn't got into my hands yet...
kim yee
Tested a few more shots with the suggestion by Allard. Never see any hot pixel anymore. Not even in sRAW mode. Which is good I guess.
w_t1
Glad it's gone and I don't see any hot pixel on the dogs right ear, you probably just had a 24 hr pixel peeping flu. I give my dogs a smackerel of peanut butter if I want tongue licking pics..
