kristina_v1
I recently bought the HPL2475w for photo editing. I need to return it because after calibration i noticed a tint of red on the right side of the monitor and a tint of green on the left. (brightness turned down to zero) Did some googling to find if others have had this problem. Seems so, they have gotten a a few replacements and still had the same issue. I dont want to go through that so i am returning the monitor to b and h and would like a different monitor. One that is drama free.
The sales guys suggested the samsung syncmaster 245T. Did some research seems ok. But then again so did the HP 2475w.
I am not a techie, i just want a decent monitor that is calibrated and looks good.
I am looking to spend around 500 to 600 hundred dollars. I do not make my living off photography so i cannot justify spending 1000$ or more.
I have been going around in circles trying to figure out what the best midrange monitor is and frankly im just confused and dissappointed. I am reading now that NEC EA231wmi is out for 349$ It is an IPS , but there has to be a drawback at that price right? Then there is the new dell U2410 Ips monitor.
I read somewhere that the H-ips monitor are affected by the green /red problem. I dont know if this is true, is it just the HP LP2475?
HELP! Thanks Kristina

kristina_v1
Thanks for the advice Patrick. I just looked up the Dell 2408wfp and saw some good and bad reviews. I guess that is going to happen with most monitors..this is what is sofrustrating! When i bought my HP LP2475w i was so happy to stop looking through all of the research muck because i thought i found a good monitor. Now after seeing this pink and green problem and once again doing research on the net, other people have had this problem. They go through 2-3 with hopes of one without any problems. I feel as though i am back to square one.
steven_p
You may want to look at the UltraSharpTM U2410. At the moment it is not on sale. A few days ago it was $479.

howard_m
Also check the Dell 2209WA which is IPS. You'll find it usually in the Dell "small business" part of their site.
digitaldog
I’d seriously look at the new NEC P22W which is a high bit, fully calibrated unit driven by SpectraView II software.
Author “Color Management for Photographers" & "Photoshop CC Color Management" (pluralsight.com)
kristina_v1
I read about the Ultrasharp U2410, there is a review that got me more confused, he writes about the monitor.....
http://www.displayblog.com/2009/08/06/dell-u2410-24-inch-ips-lcd-monitor/
I did find the Dell 2209wa for 300$. I dont know why i dont just go for this. part of me wants to have the best even though i dont need it, but i cant justify paying 1100 for a new monitor. I looked at the NEC 2490wuxi (1,099$) It does temp me though.
I am curious to know what people think of the new NEC Ea231wmi. You can order it from B and H for 369$ I wonder if this is a suitable monitor for my needs.
I am sending back my HP 2475w to B and H on Monday, getting a refund then hopefully finding a replacement. I do have another job to edit so this is a bummer to have to go back to my old 17 tn monitor that came with the computer.

Tim_Lookingbill
I just got the Dell 2209WA and calibrated it both with Apple's eyeball calibrator in this thread that includes a photo of it hooked to my iMac here:

http://www.photo.net/digital-darkroom-forum/00UT1m

And hardware calibrated here showing Dell presets applied on a VGA connect. Paid $293 on Amazon. Mine was made in Mexico:

http://www.photo.net/digital-darkroom-forum/00UPFN
linda degrasse
I just recently purchased a NEC monitor...LCD2090UXI. It's a $1000 monitor, but I was able to find a refurbished one on the NEC website. It comes with a one-year warranty and the price is a mere $299. They have gotten very good reviews.
