Goodmorning everyone, and Happy WedNEsDAy!

@Jose Angel , is there a particular reason you arrived at the odd capitalization of Wednesday? I was just curious.

Thank you everyone who commented on my picture last week, who responded to my questions, and who simply took the time to look. :) I hope to continue to learn from everyone as I have already.

I've started to notice that each Wednesday forms a theme or a trend or two. Starting this week, I'll try to point them out.

I also think we are onto something with the posting phase and commenting phase ... why don't we all post on Wednesday, there will be a few coming in on Thursday, and we can begin commenting on Friday (there will always be a few stragglers posting). That way we'll have all of Friday and the weekend to carefully consider and post on the pics that stand out to us.

To those of you wanting comments... quid pro quo . :) I've also noticed that if you ask questions, people are happy to talk about their pictures. It is a discussion forum , after all.

My comments are to come Friday morning . :) I want to be able to include as many as I want so I think the waiting is good .

So without further ado, here's my picture. I submit "Another Year Gone, Another New Beginning "

I took this on Sunday at Marsh Creek State Park near my house. I was out on a walk, on my birthday, out with a girl I've been seeing (and am just smitten with ::sigh::). I had to show off a little . :) It had just finished raining, and we were walking along the lake while chatting. At one point, we encountered a bit of mud, and I stood in it and let her step on my feet to cross so that we could go play with the Cattails growing on the shore. (Oh, the things we do...) Anyhow, on the return to the car (it was getting dark as you can see) the sunset was very pretty, but I wasn't really interested in just another sunset shot. As I turned to walk around a large puddle of water, I caught the reflection of this tree silhouetted against the sky on the top of the hill and immediately knew this was THE shot.

Photo Comments : I don't have the RAW file on me or else I'd do maybe a bit of work to this. This is SOTC. I shot it at ISO200 with a much too slow shutter, 1/40. In retrospect, I'd have bumped it to ISO400, shot it at 1/60, braced myself a little better, and closed the aperture a bit. Oh well, these small sizes don't show motion blur (almost straight up and down in this one) too bad. It'll make a nice small print. Thank you for looking.

Good morning and again, fabulous images, many of which you would not see if it was not for this magnificent forum. This image was taken late one afternoon in "Parc St.Catherine" in Quebec, Canada. The water is part of the huge (looks like an ocean but not in this image) St.Lawrence river. Nikon D300, manfrotto tripod, Tamron 90mm macro at f25 and shutter speed of 1/1.6s with a circular polarizer.

00UNnZ-169423684.jpg.b161aaff3e8bb6aec9ffb1c0adfce755.jpg

Hi all, and happy WedNEsDAy!
We seem to have a quality thread in our hands once again, great work everyone! Few of my favorites so far have been photos by Monika E, Ton, M, Ian R, Gary McGhee, Aaron B, Wade R, Louis M & MS Keil to name but a few. I didn't have time to comment on last weeks thread and once I found the time, the thread was closed. So thanks to everyone who commented my photo in last thread, your kind words were highly appreciated.

I didn't have any time to shoot this week, took only about ten snapshots during the week. So this one is from Oulu Music Video Festival taken a week and a half ago, like last weeks pic. But this one is not about air guitar, this was taken during the Pumpeli Award gala where the best Finnish music videos were awarded. The gala begun with a dance performance, and here we have the dancers and the host of the gala.

Hi everyone! Wow, there are some amazing pictures this week! I check this thread out every week but I've only posted a couple of times. Compared with all of your wonderful shots this week, mine isn't that great. But I would like to share it with you anyways. It was taken at Big Spring in Van Buren, Missouri. The water there is so blue, and it's such a contrast to the very green foliage. I love visiting there. This photo was taken mid-morning last weekend, with my D5000 and an 18-55mm VR lens.

I do so enjoy the stories behind the photographs!
Each photo is so interesting, but these caught my attention...
Chris Court...killer dragonfly!
Leo Papandreou....love "past their prime" flowers
Joe Elrod....very creative
Margaret Hamwood....unusual waterfall shot,beautiful!
Jim Interlicchio....nice dog shot
Amy Zlatic....those newspapers on the end stool are the icing on the cake
Eric Blair...... nice form, looks like the bird posed for you!
Tim Evans...godd idea about commenting at later date!

My shot today is of the sunrise coming through my front door glass. The dog is actually an iron cut out that has my street number on it!

00UNps-169435984.thumb.jpg.fd717c44a6f02908f11029b15f65fd4d.jpg

A busker, Lex? This is DC, mister! We prefer Busquier. Or better yet, Organic Fair Trade Busquier playing a guitar made from 95% post-consumer recycled bamboo sprouts.

He did have pretty good chops, actually. While I was shooting, he was drifting off into a soaring David-Gilmour-meets-Carlos-Santana sound that made me want a half-caffe double shot extra skinny no-foam latte with just a single spank of the cinamon shaker. And an empinada.

Last night on my way home this happened real close to my house. I grabbed my camera and walked down to the scene. No news in local papers or T.V. on what happened. Sheriff was going thru the van as I shot. I submitted the shot to the St petersburg times so they would do a story so I would know what happened. We had a 18 year old boy killed in our front yard 5 yrs ago hitting our tree head on. Drive safe.

00UNqV-169441584.jpg.fb2660edb8fda9fd685052d089f07473.jpg

Taken last week at a quasi-abandoned rail yard.
This is a train derailer / derailleur, designed to derail any train which drives over it. This protects side lines, work crews, etc., from errant trains.

Thanks to all of you because while comments are nice and certainly appreciated the old cliche still hold true: a picture says more than a thousand words and in that sense this is a most enjoyable thread. As for quid pro quo I'm not a believer myself because spontaneous exceeds obligatory always. As I'm my own worst critic I tend to be critical to other peoples work as well and it's certainly not all great photos that I see here but all enjoyable nevertheless. Still, some have the ability to upload outstanding work time and again.

Yes, I do some other stuff as well besides hanging out on the streets. You never know, I might even upload a color photo at some point ;-))) To be honest the above one I took at the Dutch coast last weekend on a little outing with my wife.

Jose , my father did breed Australian parakeets on a large scale so I'm quite familiar with this kind of bird. You captured him extremely well
Chris , I can't say I'm too fond of those critters but your photos of them are quite something else
Bernard , it may be a simple portrait but it could use some extra work given the flat lighting
Matt , that's not only a fun shot but also a very well processed one. Good work for sure.
Barry , I know of no flag that commands such reverence
Aaron , yes, you succeeded!
Tim , you're right, thumbs up
Janne , that's a great silhouette and a interesting one to boot
James that's crisp b&w if ever I saw it. Craftfull exposure as expected

to name a few. Just remember, the best photo you have yet to take.
