Thanks to all
Used the 200MM at local Pep Rally in Fieldhouse and it did pretty good. I need to work on my Techniques as this seems to be be my main problem now. I used my monopod, but still TOO much lateral movement. Practice makes for better photo's Everyone enjoy the Labor Day weekend.
things are really doing better, but do have some other thoughts to do better?
Set up; AF to 3D or other??
center focus; normal or wide???
focus point; wrap around off or off??
or any other ideas for crisper photographs.
I shot 461 last night and most were not too bad. saved 107 good ones. the other ones were not necessarily bad. about 100 were not good quality.

Hello, I have just purchased the 70-200mm vr 2.8. I must say that it takes FABULOUS shots, however, sometimes I am concerned about the focusing. Not too sure what I should have my focusing settings on...! PLease reference the below picture... beautiful focusing and colors. However the second shot focused on the tree behind the subjects.

Please help if you can.

I am just learning to use mine and there is alot to learn in the switch to digital. The people on this forum have really helped a lot. Not sure what to say other than try single point focus. I have tried all kinds of "stuff" and found out a lot of good info. In sports there is a place for single point, dynamic and 3D. Try center focus or wide zone also. I also found that if you disable the VR when on tripod it does better. I followed one suggestion and disabled the VR while shooting sports and that worked better in "some" cases.
