martin_aspeli
Hi,
I have a Nikon D300 and my wife has a Nikon D90 DSLR. We use them a lot, but my wife would also like a smaller compact that is easy to put in a handbag and doesn't weigh much.
The compact market is so big and good reviews seem hard to come by. Does anyone have any good recommendations?
Important factors:

Lens quality and final picture quality

Ergonomics and handling

Size and weight

Resolution, card format and price are less important, but we're not looking to spend a fortune.
Cheers,
Martin
andylynn
Whatever the current Canon SD models are, or if you want to spend more, they just announced the S90 which looks pretty kickass both in quality and in handling but isn't shipping yet.
ofey_kalakar
Leicasonic LX3 is a nice little camera. There is a recent very nice comparison review b/w the Richo, Canon and LX3 on the PNet review section.

There are plenty of reviews there too. The above link may help you decide what is best for you.
dbcooper
I shoot Nikon DSLRs. My P&S cameras are:

coat pocket: Canon G10

shirt pocket: Canon SD880IS (replaced by the SD960IS, check out the SD980IS as well)

Panasonic and Olympus make great P&S cameras as well. The Lumix LX3's popularity is evidenced by it being very hard to find in stock at stores everywhere (most available as in-stock are selling over list price), but be advised it's short on zoom.
steven_p
The LX3 was not available anywhere, so I took a chance and bought a ZS3 instead. It is pretty close to the 25-300 range stated and I am quite pleased with the results.

I generally shoot with a D300.

Les, (above) is correct about the compromise.
