From Colour to B&W - LANDSCAPE tutorials?

<p>Hello.<br />I have dozens landscape mountains photos made with colour film (Fuji Reala) and want to convert them in PhotoShop to B&W. I found a few tutorials about conversions to black & white but they discuss an issue generally.<br />I wonder if there are tutorials made particularly for best converting colour landscape to b&w?<br>

Will be grateful for links or suggestions.<br />Piotr</p>

<p>LR has great b&w conversion, and it's super easy to use. </p>

<p>I suggest you consider using Scott Kelby's Adobe Photoshop CS4 (or whatever version you are using) Book for Digital Photographers. I has several options for B&W conversion that are easy to follow.</p>

<p>There are two good free videos to check out. If you are going to use Photoshop see Jeff Schewe's video <a href="http://photoshopnews.com/2009/03/19/advanced-color-to-black-and-white-conversion/">here</a>. Far more simple and i find useful to get you 95% where you want to be is to use Lightroom. Martin Evening's approach is <a href="http://lightroom-news.com/2009/03/02/improved-grayscale-conversions/">here</a>. Hope these help!</p>

or, what i do: http://www.niksoftware.com/silverefexpro/usa/entry.php?tab=0 They have a 15-day free trial, and it's way faster than 'manually' doing it in Photoshop. It can be used stand-alone or as a Lightroom, Aperture, or Photoshop plugin. It's pricey, but very good.</p>

<p>i like to do a basic conversion and then go in and dodge and burn different areas to get the tones that i like</p>

<p>Being a realtive neophyte in scanning I guess my first question is why not simply scan them in B&W, then proceed from there?</p>

<p>Is there some inherent loss in this approach that may have a delterious effect on what Piotr is trying to accomplish?</p>

<p>Sory for the minor threadjack, but I am going to undertake a project to digitize a couple decades of film / slides and this could benfit both of us.</p>
