tom_johnson2

To find the .m2ts files from my Panasonic ag-hmc70 I have to wade through all these folders, avchdl/avchdtn/bdmv/backup/stream. I assume there is a purpose for all this, but can I, once the files are gotten to, just move them to a folder of my own making, for convenience?
mc2imaging
Yes, you should move them to a hard drive for faster access. Are you using Panasonic's pre-packaged software? Are you using Windows or Mac? I was thinking about buying a few HMC70's so I borrowed one from a friend. I've got a MacBook Pro and I use Final Cut Express 3.5.1. It does not natively support the .mts/.m2ts files so I booted under WinXP and tried using the Panasonic software. Pretty stinky, in my opinion. I then downloaded Voltaic for Mac (also available for PC) to convert the files and was MUCH happier, but this took FOREVER. The newest versions of FC (Pro and Express) support the .mts files natively, so when I buy my HMC150's or HMC200's (couldn't stand the HMC70 after using DVC30's for years), I will upgrade my FCE...

Sorry, I can't tell you what PC software supports the .mts files, but if your software doesn't support it, I think Voltiac is work the $35. It will batch process all of your files into almost anything (AVI, MPEG4, DV Stream, FLC, QT, etc.) while you go do something else, and does a fine job of it.
tom_johnson2
I moved them off the card to my hard drive, but it came wrapped in all these folders. I haven't a clue what else is in the other folders, or what it has to do with the actual m2ts files. I want to get the files of by themselves to make them easer to get to. Yes you are right the software that came with the camera is beyond stinky.

I have an XP machine and a Vista laptop, but I have only done the AVCHD on the Vista. I used Adobe Premier Elements 6 with the files from my DV camera with great success, but it won't deal with AVCHD. I tried the trial version of Premier Elements 7 which is supposed to do the job, but I personally didn't have much luck with it, but I think I like Corel VideoStudio 12, and am thinking of buying it. It does a good job of finding, rendering, and converting the files.

This camera belongs to my Church, and they put me in charge of making it work. Before I got my hands on it I had never heard of AVCHD, but I need to get a handle on it because these people think I am some kind of expert.
