marclangille
I've desperately wanted to get some perched shots to compliment my in-flight portfolio of images. Today I finally got out the big fast glass and boy was I glad that I did! 8-) Not so good lighting though... but I love the subtle colors, instead of simply firing a flash.

Taken with the K10D + FA* 300/2.8 and Tamron 1.4x Pz-AF TC for 420mm. It took me just over an hour to get this close to my little returnees. Little or no cropping in these images. Only default conversion from RAW in ACR, no additional sharpening, minor Levels adjustment for the background to deepen it's hues in the second image.

Taken at F/5.6, 1/160 sec., ISO 640, AV mode, EV -0.3...
The Defender:

Photo Dimensions 3872 x 2592

Taken at F/6.3, 1/100 sec., ISO 640, AV Mode, EV -0.3...
On Alert:

Photo Dimensions 3813 x 2592

I hope you enjoy them!

Cheers,
Marc

shots worth sharing
I've been playing with that lens/tc combination but haven't gotten results that good. [scratches head] I wonder why? ;~)
miserere_mei
Marc, your shutter speed is too slow because the wings are completely blurred out. That's the extent of my critical evaluation.
morgan lee
I really like 'On Alert'. That shot gives the hummingbird a lot of character.
marclangille
Scot, Douglas, Robert, Kathy and Garry: thank you all for the very kind words!

Markus: it's big and bright through the viewfinder, even in lower light. No question there! Thanks for the comments.

Haig and Dave: it's a truly stellar combination with solid telephoto lens technique. Dave, keep playing and try the lower shutter speeds as I have - I know it makes me work harder for the result... 8-)

Mis: ah, you caught me... it's an amputee hummer... 8-0

Morgan: "On Alert" is now a PPG image and a favorite of mine. Thanks for looking!

Regards,
Marc
