marclangille
It's been a while (since April!) since I have posted! Thought you might enjoy a shot of a Great Blue Heron just after he made the strike (but missed).

Taken with the K10D, F/5.6, 1/800 sec., ISO 100, EV -0.3, AV mode, @ 250mm:

Photo Dimensions 1721 x 1039 after cropping.
roseberry guitars
Good capture Marc! Those guys are so patient but so fast when the strike comes. And in my experience of watching them....they very seldom miss..."Bummer".
marclangille
Thanks Scott! Personally I think some of the details are lost in the PN format restrictions on image size. Here is a link to a larger image:
The Strike
garry_young1
Excellent Marc, and the large shot does indeed have excellent detail.
shots worth sharing
Great! What lens?
marclangille
Garry: thank you and glad you enjoyed it! I am glad I posted a link to the larger image.

Dave: I appreciate the kind words. So do you promise you won't kill me if I tell you what lens was used??? 8-D

It's a tad embarrassing, given the focal length used and how much I cropped... 8-0

miserere_mei
C'mon Marc, just tell us what lens you used... :-)

A nice shot is a nice shot, independantly of the lens mounted. Although you do have some nice, long Pentax lenses in your stable ;-)
marclangille
Alright, I'll bow to the pressure... It's the FA* 250-600/5.6

Here is the original image, uncropped:

That's why it's embarrassing - could have been a tad tighter on this shot, no? Perhaps 350mm to ensure the mirrored reflection is captured. So much for paying attention... oops.

Regards,
Marc
miserere_mei
OK Marc, now we want a photo of you standing next to the lens :-)
wtlwdwgn
Marc, I am really envious of your 250-600 and the image of the GBH. I've never seen that lens anywhere not that I could afford it if I had. On my monitor the GBH certainly looks very sharp and has great detail. Good shooting.
rose_duclos
Goodness Marc! that's a crazy good picture. :) I don't think you should be beating yourself up over the not-cropped image - I like it more seeing the full bird, and his reflection in the water... the fact that he's captured doing an action is simply icing on the cake.
Koodos, my dear - it's really well done.
marclangille
This is the image I sold to someone, who is a big birding enthusiast:

Printed at 13" x 19" and it look great. He bought 2 others from me on that order.

Regards,
Marc
marclangille
Mis and Steve: unfortunately I cannot oblige in terms of a picture... 8-(

This was one I was test driving for a few hours last year. I'd never used a lens like this (in terms of focal length and a zoom!!).I have to wait a little while longer before getting mine. I am just waiting for the K-7 verdict by each of them and whether or not one or more of them will be available for sale from their perspective owners...

Of course, it doesn't help that I know of the locations of four (4) 250-600/5.6 lenses... that is not a typo... 8-D

Regards,
Marc
