bsd230
I see it is on their website and it is available for pre-order on Amazon. I was wondering if anyone knew when it would be released.
I am considering a ultra wide. I have pretty much narrowed my search down to the Tokina 11-16 or the up and coming Nikon 10-24, provided it performs well. I'm assuming the 11-16 might have better IQ, but for them to replace the 12-24 I figure it has to be a little better.
eric_arnold
not sure if it's better but i can guarantee it's wider. they are different lenses in a sense since the tokina has the 2.8 and the nikon has the wider zoom range and the f/4. i'm sure IQ is great on both; i would make my decision based on which one is more suited to your shooting style. or flip a coin.
bahrammonshat
Suggest be caustios about Tokina's focus accuracy, in all focus ranges.
andylynn
The Nikon will need to be very good indeed to compete with the Tokina, considering how good the Tokina is, and the price difference!

The larger zoom range doesn't seem so impressive to me - you've got the extra 1mm, and at that wide of a wide angle 1mm can seem like a lot, but being able to do 24mm at f/4.5 on DX just doesn't sound very exciting.
photo5
I loved the Sigma 10-20mm, but I missed the 24mm the Tokina 12-24mm had. So I predict, that at $899, the Nikon 10-24mm should be a killer lens.
andreas_manessinger
As far as I know, it is already released. At least pretty every dealer here in Vienna, Austria has it and I have already seen it in two shop windows. The actual lans, not the box :)

Peter_in_PA
Stuff hits Europe first all the time from Nikon, so that means it should be here really soon.
bsd230
Yeah Amazon is the only site that I usually frequent that even shows it for pre-sale. It said it was supposed to be available on April 13th, so I would image they should be ariving anytime. I will wait to see a review on them before I make my final decision. 10-24 is a pretty nice range, if the IQ is good it will likely be my next lens.
ShunCheung
Brian, the 10-24mm Nikkor was announced on April 14, Japan time: http://www.photo.net/nikon-camera-forum/00T3hdAmazon couldn't be selling it on April 13 or even the few days immediately after that.

According to the following post by Thom Hogan on May 4 (2 days ago), dealers should be receiving the new 10-24 now: http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1030&message=31768473
bsd230
The April date was just what they had on Amazon. It might the the date they set up the pre-order. I am anxiously waiting to read some reviews.
