jdrose
Try reseating your lens. That always fixes mine when it locks up.

jdrose
Bummer.

There was one time when I bumped my D50 rather hard and the shutter stopped actuating. I depressed the shutter button over and over while gently "whacking" it until the shutter worked. It seemed stuck. The sound that it makes has now changed but it still works.

If it actually does need a repair keep in mind the cost. A used D50 can be found under $150 occasionally. Adorama always seems to a have a few in stock for $200 or so.
