galileo42
I've always found my 24-70/2.8G-ED slow to focus and it hunts a lot in low light. And this on either the D700 or F6. I don't have this problem with any other lens, zoom or prime. Is this normal for this lens? Do others have the same problem? Thank you.
liljuddakalilknyttphotogra
Michel,
I have no such problems. What do the contacts look like - maybe some dirt on them - - it could happen....
Lil :-)
jose_angel
Mine works perfect. With my previous D300, I noticed that there was a difference with the F6 under very low light... the D300 hunted way less than the F6. I didn`t make a direct comparison with the D700, but it seems to me that works as good as with the D300.
constance_cook
Mine is as fast as my 17 - 35. Can you try another one somewhere for comparison?

For general walk-around use, it's become my lens of choice in neighborhoods.

Conni
azn137
Well, it's definitely slower than any AF-S lens, I can guarantee you that :)
lex_jenkins
What AF options are you using? This can make a significant difference in autofocus response.
paul_b.1
Mine is very fast on D3 but not as sharpest as I espected at 2.8.
elliot1
"Well, it's definitely slower than any AF-S lens, I can guarantee you that :)" You mean like the 55-200mm or the 70-300mm? Mine focuses virtually instantly.

Michel, send yours in for service.

Paul, I had the same concern and sent mine to Nikon to have it checked. I just got it back and have not had a chance to test it to see if the IQ at f2.8 has improved. I suggest you send yours in to have it checked.
paul_b.1
Thanks Elliot..., it cross my mind, but I perform the AF fine tunning and the best results are at "0". I'm very curious if they improve your lens "IQ" !?.
