thomas_k.
When using PC-E 24 3.5 nikkor on d300 body for stiched panoramas how large (pixel wise) images can be obtained verticaly and horizontaly using lenses shift only - without camera pan? Right now I am using regular 24mm 2.8D and nikkor on d300 and I'm trying to figure out best lens to improve my images. Also is anybody using new zeiss 24 and 28 lenses for landscapes with marked improvement over nikkor lenses?
Thomas.
arthuryeo
If you have a dedicated pano-head, you do not need to compromise with a 24mm PC-E, your 24mm/2.8AFD will be just fine. Also, I believe a set of pano-head is a lot less than a 24mm PC-E.

So, think about your usage and choose your tools wisely.
oskar_ojala
You can do a maximum shift, which I think was 12 mm -- half of the frame width and 2/3 of the height. Do the maths from that.
Image quality wise, the 24 PC-E is clearly superior to the 24/2.8 AF-D on a D300. The only advantage the 24/2.8 has is the small size. The Zeiss 25/2.8 roughly similar in performance to the 24 PC. The PC-E is extremely useful if you need tilt and/or shift, but if you're only interested in non-perspective corrected panoramas then it might be overkill.
