My very patient muse.
We were planning a trip to Costa Rico where I wanted to shoot some wildlife so I was trying to figure out lens to take. The expense of a 400 or 600mm f/4 lens was a bit difficult to deal with so I decided to test my D700 with a 70-200mm f2/8 with a TC-29E II (2x) teleconverter. I could deal with the loss of 1 stop with the D700 higher ISO capabilities, but was not sure about sharpness. I actually don't have a direct comparison with a 400mm prime lens, but I was operating under the principle 'looks good to me'
Attached image was shot with the hardware described above at 400mm, f5.6, 1/250 (VR was on), handheld at ISO 2000.
I decided the experiment was a success. She decided we would go to Mexico instead. Ah well.

00SGNQ-107263584.jpg.0d03a9a2246f259afeac57b877dd3bef.jpg

At the Monterey Aquarium, the bird section. This is, from what I recall, a stilter (sleepy). I used my D700 with a first-version Nikon AF 80-200 f2.8 wide open, at ISO 5000.

This little weekly tradition is a lot of fun... and all these striking images make me feel very, very humble. Thanks for posting them!

Just saw this thread and wanted to join in. Hope you don't mind a picture I took last Wednesday. This was taken at the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix during an exhibition of Dale Chihuly's wonderful glass artistry.

Taken with a D700, 24-70 zoom at f8. Now all I have to do is figure out how to upload my picture to this type of thread. ;-)

00SGVG-107285684.jpg.dd6eac1b7cbfa5080a3c322acfba4140.jpg

OK this week I post a personal shot. Andrea & I went to Disneyland for my birthday. It was great to have a mother/daughter bonding day again. We used to do everything together & her growing up has been hard on me.
Thanks Disney for giving me a free day with my daughter having fun. :-)
This is Andrea on a bench taken with the D300 & the 18-200VR EXIFs embedded... She says psrt of the fun was watching me stop & photograph stuff all over. :-) Glad I can still amuse my daughter. :-)
Lil :-)

Thank you Richard - she is my pride & joy. She wants to become a stage actress & has just landed one of the parts of CSUN's stage production of "Anything Goes". Maybe I can sneak the D700 in & get a shot or two..... Or ask permission to get a shot of her on the stage after the production....
She wants me to.....
Great shots as always guys

Thank you Richard....
the D700 has arrived & Firmware is updated. I've shot a few nothing shots & spent time putting things in "order" - that's my way of saying I've started putting in my preferences on the camera. ;-)
I need to go out & shoot a little here & there so now I've put the 24-70 f/2.8 on it & I'm trying out the BlackRapid neck strap.... It takes a tad getting used to the fact that the camera is hooked on that way...... Scary....

Lil :-)
