Another plus for Fuji is their continual firmware updates. It seems they really listen to their customers, and then do something to enhance their Fuji experience.

The data I have is just my personal experience, and that of friends. Of 5 300mm lenses among us (AF-S), three have a slight squeak, including mine, but only after not being used for some time. All three are still working well, but will squeak if we let them sit too long.

Yes, this seems to be a somewhat common problem with that lens and others. Mine does it, especially if I haven't used it for quite some time. After using it for awhile, the noise will diminish, or go away entirely. If it sits for a few months it will come back. The good news, for me at least, is that I've had this lens for many years and it still works fine.

12-100 is my preference as well.

XT-1 and X-T2 user here who added L-brackets to both. Increased the size just enough for me, and makes both much easier to hold and manipulate the controls.
