Haig,
Thank you. Yes, the pond freezes solid about once every five years. This year it held for a few days a couple of weeks ago. When we get a rare extended cold snap (meaning 10-25 degrees F), a spontaneous pile of ice skates will appear at a trail head. I fondly remember skating there about 15 years ago. There was a fun hockey game going on, but the pond is big enough to skate to some quiet(er), lovely settings.

Nice work, all! Haig's snacking bird is great, and the fog makes Javier's LA shots very interesting. Chune, that's a prety cool shot of an unsuspecting person - I have a hard time with that.
As I posted previously I shot a roll of Velvia that was at least 4 years expired using a SP1000 and some Taks. Many of the pictures were way too yellow, but this one came out nicely.

00Rzza-103375684.jpg.4ad09b0aff3b73268ac9dc61f922da87.jpg

Too many nice pictures make it hard to choose a favourite. Enjoy all, but maybe especially Javiers second shot of LA, Scot's harbour, James' Icing, Jeff Lillies (very nice lighting), Roberts New Year (don't usually fancy firework pics but you got some nice colours in this) and as always Nick's kids.
Then my pic

00S03x-103423584.jpg.1981a62f553114a570ff8b7536268af3.jpg

Vegard, Thank YOU, glad you like it. This and other POW are indeed an incredible collection of some very fine images.
I like your pic; "First Apple Picking (southern hemisphere)", very much, content and subject and isolation, bokeh etc... right on for me. In addition to all that, the skin tone & exposure is just perfect. Lovely portraiture.
I too enjoy Javier Gutierrez's 2nd shot of the city of angels, it pops for me. Love the sun light on the foreground, the cloud separation and isolation of taller buildings in the background, just works out right for me.

Thanks Michael..
Chune that's a good catch for somebody with SUI :-)..
Vegard, that's a really good shot.. love the tones and I think you got the perfect expression on her face ..
Robert, I love that lonely tree.. nice colors.
Nick, the Outside in is quite good, does not look particularly off color.. looks kind of wintery :-)
Adam, quit holding out on Bailee.. give him that doggy biscuit already..sheeesh!

@ Bob Marz,

I've done no such thing in the cold and wind this Year! I've been in warm, humid, Memphis for the entirety of this January 2009. It's been in the 70s for the last 2 days and still in the 50s today.

I noticed not so warm up in New York, and normally I'm not a fan of 70s in January but the weather we had when we left Wednesday night was just brutal, and I was thrilled to be walking around in a t-shirt and sandals.

Happy New Year to everyone, and rest assured, in just 20 hours I'll be back in New York freezing my butt off with Bob!

here is my meager contribution...

Some really good shots up!
At last I have something to contribute again, although it is not from this week just gone, it is from the week before - just getting to process stuff now.
Both taken with K20D and F100mm macro. First is a spruced up shot of backlit palm fronds:
Second is a shot of a drop of tree sap below a screw stuck in a tree:
