Website hosting help

Recommended Posts

Hey folks! I hope the holidays are finding you well. I am working on putting up my own website for my photography and I am looking for a good place to host it. I am not making much off of my photography yet so price is a bit of a concern. Any recommendations for hosting? All my galleries are over on exposuremanager.com so I don't believe storage space will be much of a concern. What I am looking to do is have a site that has my resume/bio, rates, etc that will link to the galleries. Thanks for any info!

I searched around for quite a while before settling on a host for my site. I decided to go with hostmonster.com and have been quite pleased. My site has never gone down for any reason, I have more space than I will ever use and it is relatively affordable ($5.95/month). The last I checked, they were among the top web host with a plethora of excellent reviews. My only nit would be that they don't allow fine art nudes to be displayed on photography sites.
Happy Holidays!

One other thought on this - very sorry for the double-post. I went back and-read the other responses and Paul's response triggered a memory. I would avoid bluehost.com. They, like Paul's host, impose their rules, beliefs, standards, whatever else you might call them - on their customers and forbid certain types of uploads. Based on their user agreement you can't swear on any site you host through them (you wouldn't want to on a business site but I just think that's a bit extreme), have anything deemed too "sexual" on your site, or pretty much have anything other than "good, clean, pure content" (quotes are mine). To confirm this I actually had an online chat session with one of their support people and asked - "so, if I had a blog hosted through you and one of my posts had the forbidden S word in it and you saw it, you'd drop my site?" They responded in the affirmative.
Like I said - with the exception of artistic nudes - none of this is anything you'd have on a publicity/business site anyway but I just have huge issues with them based on principle.

I am in the process of building my site at http://mbsphotos.com There are many hosting companies you can choose from. I had over 30 sites with go Daddy and last summer purchased my own server. I like to use Dot Net Nuke that will allow you to build a site with any web software. On my home page you will see a photo gallery that make it easy to upload your photos and display them. You can manage the site via the web. I would be willing to host your site for $99 per year. I will even help you get it going.

I created my own software to manage complete webs with integrated slide shows, panorama viewers, event viewers, news, rss, etc. - very easy to use. See my web: www.thaler-design.com I'll be happy to make all forum members a special offer - including web design, setup of all inizial pages, offline cms software, instructions, webspace etc. !
