I have 3 cars, one girl, full black background, one 250W and one 500W light, both with umbrellas, Nikon D300, 50mm f/1.8D, 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6, and one SB-800... p.s. I will do one car at a time...So 1 car, 1 girl setup. jtk
Freeze dry the girl, lean her up against the car, use multiple exposures: paint with light.
Charles_Webster
John is right. You don't have enough light to make a short enough exposure that the girl won't be blurry. You can't mix the 250 and 500 watt hot lights with your SB-800 without gelling the SB-800 down to tungsten temp, and losing a bunch of light in the process. Given your setup, you should expect shutter speeds like 1/30 at f/1.8 at ISO 1600 or so. You need a lot more light, and a lot bigger light modifiers than you have to successfully take a picture of an auto against a full black background. With a black b/g, you'll also need some kind of rim light to separate the car from the bg. Good luck, <Chas>

nathan_stiles
Your light is inadequate-- better I tell you than the girl ;-) Change venues-- I'd shoot in a parking garage, on a floor that has open space. Keep in the shadows, and the spill from the open sides will be enough to add dimension to the vehicle. It won't be Car and Driver quality, but you can't buy Moet w/ a beer budget.
