laverephoto
There are a lot of posts mincing the advantages of various brands and styles of camera. I don't care much about brand, but I have a kit that works great for me and many others. I could give a hundred reasons why I live this kit but I'd like to hear some more. I have two identical DSLR bodies. On one I put a 70-200 2.8, and the other I put a 17-35 2.8. I keep a 50 1.4 in my pocket to cover the middle. Works for me all day. I LOVE 2.8 zooms and fast autofocus!
frank_skomial
Good for you, for whatever you shoot or print size. If you ever need another step up in picture quality, consider Nikkors: 85/1.4 (77 mm filter size version), and 180/2.8.
btmuir
I have a 17-40, a 50 1.4 and an 85 1.8 but only one body at the moment. I need a 70-200 next and a spare body and that will cover me for most events I book.
elmroc
My kit really depends on what i'm going to shoot. I shoot High School sports for a publishing company which runs 12 newspapers for 12 different towns, and for these sports, i use 2 bodies, a D300 and a D700. I mount up everythin from a 17-35m f2.8 50mm f1.4, 85mm f1.4, vr70-200 f2.8, and 300mm f2.8. This is pretty much my sports and editorial kit. lenses not mounted go in a Lowepro waistpack, as well as a SB800 flash, Gary Fong difuser, and spare batteries and memory cards. graham_line
I worked for several years with two bodies, a 28 and an 85 mounted up, with a 50 available. This was well before zooms were decent enough or fast enough or cheap enough.
phyrpowr
24-105 on the new (to me) 5D, 70-300 IS (touristing) or 100-400 IS (out for serious longrange) on the 40D, 10-22 in the bag, I'm good to go
maris_rusis
Tachihara 810HD, 121 f8 Super Angulon, 300 f5.6 Fujinon W, 740 f16 Landscape Achromat, Manfrotto 028 Tripod, 20 film holders, and all the other usual bits and pieces. Quality? Yep, just blows everything smaller into the weeds.
pjmeade
It's good to keep things simple. I find a 300/f IS (+/-1.4x) and 70-200/2.8 IS used for most sports, but always need something shorter for awards, where an additional 24-105 is very useful. fullmetalphotograper
I like to pack light and simple: My main kit is two light weight bodies (Nikon D3 and D2x) three lens (Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8, Tokina 28-70mm f/2.8 and Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 VR) and a SB800 flash. This is my main kit for editorial/commercial work. I also use this basic set up with 2 Norman ML600R kit from B&H for studio work. I will also add a Tokina 300mm f/2.8 and gitzo monopod sports and general news. I have put a basic kit together that allows me to shoot most types of assignments.
I have a back up kit that has a D70s with hoodman grip, Nikkor 12-24mm f/4, Nikkor 18-70mm 3.5-4.5 and Nikkor 80- 200mm f/2.8 and SB800 flash, that will hand off to a second shooter on occasion.
