gary_boss
Have only had 50D for couple weeks, upgrade from 10D and love it. However I'm having a very thin horizontal line consistantly across the image at about 1/5 of the way down from the top. Any ideas?<div></div>
ryanjoseph
Return it to Canon, that might be a shutter or sensor defect.
zafar1
Haven't seen this before. If the line is present for different lenses then I think you should be calling Canon.
PuppyDigs
Try mapping it out with the dust delete function. It disappears or reduces you know you probably have a mark on the CMOS cover/filter and a cleaning may be in order. If not, you have a more serious problem in need of repair. lester_wareham
It looks like obstruction vignetting, before sending the camera back, check. 1. Are you sure you have the lens hood mounted correctly? 2. If it was a very wide angle lens did you use filters? 3. Did it happen with any other lenses? PuppyDigs
Lester, I don't think he's asking about the vignetting in the left upper right, but the horizontal line through the upper third of the image. But, yeah, looks like the hood is incorrectly mounted too. Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
JeffOwen
This line appears to change density across the image. Have you taken a shot with a plain background to see if it affected by the scene illumination? It may on the sensor or in the electronics, either way it does not look good and should be sorted out by Canon.
obelix
I'd say send it back to Canon as well
johnmarsden
On my screen it also looks like you have a couple of fine lines along the top of the image too. Shoot something simple and have a careful look at the images on screen use different memory cards and lenses, card reader etc See if the lines are visible on you camera LCD as well or is it only after download to your computer. As you eliminate each variable bit you will eventually come down to the conclusion of what the problem is or that you have a bad camera. Return promptly for exchange – a new one not a repair. Good luck – may the force be with you.
alan_green4
think of canon's position. new model that is just rolling out, with another new model (5d/2) coming out very soon. they will jump at the chance to replace this body. (if it were me) i'd send it back with a note and some prints showing the problem. i can't imagine canon will give you any flak whatsoever. ps -- you have more than one line. at very top of frame is another, much thicker, line. the sensor and/or processor is shot
j_smith6
Try a different memory card first.
j_smith6
**format it before using and download your pictures using USB cable not card reader.
gary_anthes
I would not send it to Canon for repair. I'd send it back to the seller for exchange. You probably got a defective camera shipped to you. Hopefully you bought from someone like Amazon that will exchange it no questions (well, almost no questions) asked. PuppyDigs
I wonder what the Boss actually did... Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
onewish
I would get guess that's it a failure in the imaging sensor, looks like a whole line is stuck at one pixel value. Like someone wrote, don't send it to repair, exchange it where you bought it, you will get a camera back sooner.
