iancoxleigh
The visitor's centre at the Bristlecone forest near Bishop, CA burned down recently. It will cost an estimated $500,000 to $750,000 to replace and require congressional approval (so it might be a while). There is a good news article here: http://www.inyoregister.com/content/view/115529/1/ And an ongoing discussion here: http://www.naturephotographers.net/imagecritique/bbs.cgi?a=vm&mr=33737&CGISESSID=64695a36c130aaae0979751be2917d69&u=12875 There have been a number of recent acts of vandalism in the Inyo Forest area and this certainly could be an act of arson. I was just there this past June and the staff were among the nicest people I met anywhere in US and the visitor's centre was a welcome respite from the no-see-ums and the sun. I spent much of the day sitting in their entrance reading a book to pass the time.
