Bristlecone Forest Visitor's Centre Has Burned Down

The visitor's centre at the Bristlecone forest near Bishop, CA burned down recently. It will cost an estimated $500,000 to $750,000 to

replace and require congressional approval (so it might be a while).

There have been a number of recent acts of vandalism in the Inyo Forest area and this certainly could be an act of arson.

 

I was just there this past June and the staff were among the nicest people I met anywhere in US and the visitor's centre was a welcome

respite from the no-see-ums and the sun. I spent much of the day sitting in their entrance reading a book to pass the time.
