How about a Tamron 28-75 F/2.8 thread

I thought there was a chance it may have been the body initially, but I tested my other lenses and they were all

fine.

I had the first Tamron I returned at the beginning of July, and returned the third one about a week ago. Sending

a cd with some shots and charts may be worth doing in the future if I ever have anything like this to deal with

again.

It’s interesting to compare the bokeh in the the Tamron and the Sigma flower shots, there seems to be a definite

difference between them. I’m now considering getting the Sigma as an alternative to the Tamron, or even perhaps a

35mm f2 to compliment my 77Ltd.

Looking at some of the pictures from the Tamron lenses I returned you’d never believe it was the same lens as the

ones you are seeing on this thread.

Dave, it's not you that underexposes the photos, it's your camera. What IS your fault is that you didn't add +1 EV :-)

I don't know what it is with flowers, but my K10D ALWAYS wants to underexpose them. I think it must be ALL cameras because Flickr is full of underexposed flowers. Your last shot is very nice, I just wish the flower were lower in the frame, possibly just leaving the top two leaves and having a whole bunch of swirling green in the top 2/3 of the frame. This framing would also get rid of that distracting purple flower in the bottom-right corner.

Oh wait, this isn't the critique forum, is it? Rats... Sorry Dave! :-)

>>>>>>>Dave Hollander : Thanks for coming to the rescue, Daniel--Sigma owes you! :~<<<<<<<<<<

Well it is just a lens. I am defending nothing. But if people have interest in the lens I can post some image for their reference. One thing I have never engaged is defending any of my gear. If people get a lemon/dud which happens all the time so be it. And a lot of time we have heated debate in several forums which sometimes get personal .

Comparing the performance of primes is difficult enough. Comparing different zooms at diff FL is next to impossible.

BTW Dave

The histogram of the underexposed image should have alerted you of the need for +EV

I can do that, Mis, (but it's just a test shot ;~) But you're wrong: if it's a consistent characteristic of the

camera, I should make the appropriate adjustment--and, as Daniel points out, I should have known by paying

attention to the histogram. In any case, I've concluded that the Tamron is an interesting and very capable lens

and that I'm happy with my Sigma.

Ted: I was thinking of the same combo eventually if I found a good Tamron 28-75 copy so I could get rid of my 17-70. Do you have any pics of results from your bad lenses? I should have written down all my serial#s so we could list them somewhere in case anyone else gets stuck with one :-P

Dave, my K10D only underexposes under certain conditions, most notably when shooting flowers (which I don't do often).

Not trying to convince you of buying the Tamron; I know you're happy with the Sigma, which is shorter at the long end, but also at the short end, so I wouldn't even compare them.

Now if someone were to put out a good, compact 24-90mm f/2.8, I might get a serious case of LBA :-D

This lens is the one that spends the most time on the camera. :)

Hi Folks...6 weeks ago I sent my Sigma 24-70 F/2.8 to sigma for repair because it was suffering from BF / FF issues....I also complained that that it was a slow focusing lens...This lens is known for being slow focusing because it has allot of heavy glass..It uses an 82mm filter...Anyway, what happened to this lens was not a fault of Sigma, but my fault. I dropped it about 5 feet or so and it was never the same after that...So anyway, I sent it for repair and spoke with a tech. He told me they have a completely new focusing element for that lens and was waiting for it from Japan...Anyway I got it back today and it is a rocket...It went from being super slow to one of the fastest lenses I have...It is sharp as a tack.....I also found out that my Sigma 135-400 was also fitted with a new focusing element as well and that explains why it is so quick and sharp....Anyway, here are some snap shots I took on my way home...I will take some proper images during the week.....
