somak_ray
I use a nikon F5 for my macro photography. The weight distribution is roughly as follows: F5: 1200 gm.8Xaa battery (25gmx8): 200 gm105 mm lens: 515 gmExtension tubes: 150 gm_______________________ _____ 2065 gmBall head 322RC2: 635 gm+++++++++++++++++++++++++Total: 2700 gm For low level/close to ground macro photography, will a Giottos QU 500B Mini Tabletop Tripod will suffice? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/512856-REG/Giottos_QU500B_QU_500B_Mini_Tabletop.html It's advertised maximum load capacity is 11 pounds (5Kg). My budget is around $50 and I think not many other options are available at this budget. Will a Bogen super clamp will do? I use an old Linhof tripod, and I think it can be attached along its center column. What about old Leica folding table top tripods?
alex_lofquist
The Leica large ball head and tabletop tripod should work OK. I used one for many years to mount my macro setup, before selling it to buy something more versatile. Another possibility, and much less expensive, is the Polaroid tabletop tripod. It's not quite as rigid, but very much lighter. I've seen them available (used) for $5-10.
leif_goodwin8
A bean bag works well and damps vibrations. Or a Mini Trekker, at more cost and bulk. Novoflex have a few mini tripods. The Novoflex minipod is a lighter alternative and might work: http://acephotooverstock.com/Novoflex-Minipod-Tripod/M/B0002SSFH0.htm?utm_campaign=froogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_source=froogle-GB But a bit pricey. $50? Mmmm. Stick to the beanbag! Or a used mini tripod. That Giottos looks too small and pointless to me.
mohir_ali
I was given the Giotto and it was completely useless, especially the center column. I now have a Leica large ball head and tabletop tripod. About three times your budget, but will last my lifetime.
w_t1
I use the Bogen 209 for stuff like this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/554004-REG/Bogen_Manfrotto_209_209_Tabletop_Tripod_Legs.html On top I have an old small gitzo ball head. Works when I don't want to carry a full size pod, and I'm surprised how much I use it if i have it with me, g9, 5d, film slr, minidv cam. The 209 by itself is a quality piece of equipment - no legs to extend, it's either open or closed.
