dustin_jensen
Hi photo.net! I just signed up to the forums and I hope to take part in your community. Is the right place topost an introduction? Anyways, I've been a desk jockey for about 3 years and few months ago I decided that I hate sitting at desk allday and that I'd like to make my hobby, photography, into my profession. Since then I've built my portfolio, hada few paid jobs, and even got some photos published in a magazine! Every step I take is more and more exciting. Ihaven't had any school nor any assistance experience, and I feel like that is both good and bad. I like not beingbound to any rigid rules about how I think photography should be, but at the same time I'm might be missing someimportant nuance. I hope that joining the forum can help me improve my photography and I can help other people too! Thanks!Dustin
jesse_whittle_utter
Hi Dustin, I'm in sort of the same boat you are. Do you mind if I ask how you went about getting paid jobs (and what they were) and how you got your work published? I'm trapped in the land of "photography-is-hobby." Welcome to SF! eclecticbuzzard
Hi Dustin, You're right in hoping these forums will help you improve your work. It will. This place is an invaluable source of good information and constructive criticism. Just beware of the misinformation and ridiculous criticism you'll also find. JDMvW
Bienvenue, Welcome, Welkommen! Is Pnet a cabaret? Maybe not, but it is entertaining if you can occasionally toughen your hide.

maijaathena
Hi Dustin! Welcome to P-net. I also live in the Bay Area. I'm not quite where you are -- as in I haven't received $$ for anything I do, but I've gathered a wealth of information here at PN. Learn and enjoy! -Maija
Spearhead
You've got some nice photographs, although I could do without the bacon shots. The red bicycle shot is a real standout. And you can almost see my place in your shot from Mt. Davidson, I think you have to turn a little west next time. the celt 2
Shout out from the East Coast. Been at the "hobby " thing for a good long time. No schooling, except lots of time behind the camera, and in the dark room. Just started getting a few paid jobs, and have sold a few prints. I have a display at the County Library coming up, and the possibility of a couple more shows in the near future. Pnet is a fantastic information source, and an all around good place to hang. I usually come here right after booting up my PC.
