steven_sherwin
I currently live in Japan doing alot of street photography in my free time. Just wondering if anyone knows the law or can point me in the right direction regarding this matter. I have'nt been harrassed here (unlike Australia) but just wanted to know where I stand should a situation arise. Thank you.

clive1
Steve, you'll probably get more joy asking the same question in one of the Flickr group forums. Try Hardcore Street Photography.

roger_smith4
In my experience Japan is a camera friendly nation filled with photographers. Numerous stores have signs which say no photography (my supermarket, etc) but I haven't seen anything like that on the street.
steven nelson
I was in Japan recently and was told the shutter on Japanese camera phones must make a sound to avoid stealth photography. Too many women were being harassed on the crowded subways. If you search the web there are many articles about the IPhone modifications for the Japanese market to address this requirement. I do not know if this requirement also applies to cameras without a phone.
