What modifier is this?

I read about this about 2 years ago, and can't find the book it was in. This outdoor portrait photographer was talking

about a modifier he had that was about 4 or 5 diameter, parabolic, and he'd hold it by a grip in one hand, and have his

camera shoot through a whole in the middle.

 

It was diffuser and bounce, and I think... made of plastic or something similar. It google all day Monday, and couldn't

find it. I want to say the book was Amherst Media's "Outdoor Portrait Photography", but that book is probably

packed up in prep for a move I'm going to be making.

That is a ring light-AlienBees makes the most affordable one on the market.

yeah its for a no shadow effect on the model but you can also use it with a light stand and soft box/ umbrella

Not a ring light-- there's no light in it. No umbrella ribs either, if memory servers. The diffuser is supposed to be used w/ the sun. :-/ For some reason I also think it's more clear than white.

Could be done with a white card with a hole in the middle.
