dogtired
I have just purchased a 52mm Lee adaptor ring for my push on holder. I already have the 77mm and 72mm Lee wide angle adaptor rings, both made of sturdy aluminium. The 52mm adaptor i just purchased is a plastic material. Is this the real deal, or have i been duped? I do not think so. I am thinking that more material goes into the 52mm version, so to keep the price down they use plastic. At a guess. Thought i would get confirmation from the www. ellis_vener_photography
the Lee 52mm ring I have is solid aluminum, but I've had it for awhile.
joseph_wisniewski
The Lee site specifically states "Sturdily constructed with an aluminium screw thread". http://www.leefilters.com/camera/products/range/ref:I46C9C1F561214/ Although I'd imagine that gives them "wiggle room" to make the ring part from plastic. There should definitely be aluminum somewhere.
dogtired
I emailed Lee and received this response. "Hi Adrian, Thanks for your email via our website. LEE wide angle rings are all metal construction and are twice the price of the standard rings which are made of moulded nylon with a metal screw insert. I am sure what you have is a genuine LEE ring, I am certainly not aware of any cheap versions being available. I hope this helps, if you need anything further please do not hesitate to contact me. With regards Graham" Looks like its the real thing. Very interesting that the method of construction has changed.

dogtired
I do not know. If they were taken over by some corporation like every other small business that makes a name for itself, then starts to cut corners to increase profits for the stockholders, it would not surprise me in the least.
