sheryl_bury_michals
My brother asked me what is the resolution of photos taken with a camera phone - I have no clue, being a regular camera user (Digital and film SLR's). I read somewhere it's 5 mp/photo. Does anyone have current info on this? I know he has a Motorola RAZR (recent model). I would think cell phone photos aren't as good resolution-wise as ones taken with a point and shoot or better camera. Any info would be appreciated. richterjw
It depends on the phone; I know mine only has a 1.3 MP camera, but it's two years old. The new iPhones may be close to five. JR
Spearhead
I believe the new iPhone has a 2MP camera. Many phone sold outside the US have 3-5MP resolution. I have a couple European Nokias, both 3MP. The Nokia N95 is 5MP. Music and Portraits Blog: Life in Portugal
CharlesBecker-Toronto
Jeff-you are right; the iPhone's camera is only 2 MP. cb
stp
Reminds me of one of Nikons very first digital cameras -- around 1 or 2 megapixels, for $25,000. You couldn't call anyone on it, either.
bryantan
The Motorola V3 (first generation RAZR) outputs 0.7mp image. All later generation V3's (with a lower case letter in the name, like V3i or V3x) output a 1.3MP image. You can check by going to Camera -> Camera Setup. kelly_flanigan1
The Kypcera Koi I got 4 years ago is a 1.3 megapixel; it cost more than an iPhone then; bought it overseas. It has white balance settings, video; 16 megs of memory.
kelly_flanigan1
There is abit of hokem with many cellphone cameras; and bubble pack cameras. Many OUTPUT a X.Y megapixel image but really dont have a X.Y megapixel sensor. When In tested a bunch of mostly VGA class cellphones a couple of years ago; many actually shot a better image in the natural resolution of the sensor; the NON upsized; NON decal number. sheryl_bury_michals
You all helped so much - as I had no clue. It was very enlightening. so, only the overseas made camera cell phones are 5 mp. I guess it'll be a matter of time before we get them over here. thank you all for your help. sheryl
sheryl_bury_michals
Thanks for all your help. I was very enlightened by all the responses. I didn't think the resolution was all that. I'm sure it'll be at least 2-3 years before we get the 5 mp camera phones here. the other question I have - can they ever be photoshopped into something clear and sharp, My brother sent me some pics from his phone and I couldn't really do much, as the resolution was not great, and the image looked "pixely". Gerry Whitmarsh
I have a new Samsung with a 2 mp camera. The resolution is not a problem for casual "snaps". The problem is a huge 3 second shutter lag. This makes it completely unusable in any situation where the subject is not nailed to the ground. ronda
My daughter has the brand new RAZR2 V8 ( I got it for her the beginning of the summer she is still working the cost of the phone off ) It has a 2 megapixel multi-shot camera. It actually takes nice little snap-shots.
