blades
Hi Guys,New to photo.net and just love it, really appreciate the time many people put in to helping others. I have just bought the Nikon D80 with the standard lens package 18-135, with im having heaps of fun with. Im heading to Europe from New Zealand early July and will take this package with me. My Son is getting married Feb 09 and wants me to should teh reception shots as he cant afford the pro for the full package, i was wanting to help out and do this for him, but i want to get the right lenses that i need to learn over the next six months, whilst taken lots of shots of my family who live in Europe, probably indooor shots. as well as night shots in Paris etc. Could you please instruct this novice...many thanks in advance Regardsmark
._._z
Your lens is decent enough for your needs. Maybe an inexpensive Nikon 50/1.8 or a Sigma 30/1.8 for low light situations, and learn to use an external hot-shoe flash for other occasions. You really don't need to spend much money, but if you want to: http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Nikkor_kit_lens_group_test/
racksonc
I also have a D80 and Ive found that the 50mm f1.8 Nikkor (around $100) is absolutely superb for half length portraits. By f/2.8 its sharper than the 18-135 @f/8. A prime lens may not be good for wedding photography, but if you are doing indoor shooting the faster aperture is very useful. Ive found that with the f/2.8 I can take nice indoor pictures in typical indoor lighting conditions and with the f/1.8 I can take pictures in almost any indoor lighting conditions.
