teresa_johnson2
I am curious if anyone has tried Arista's new version of the OHP transparency film? I have used Pictorico in the past but I am getting ready to teach an alternative process class and I am looking for a cheaper alternative for my students. michael_luffman
I just got a pack. I like it. I cannot compare it with Pictorico, since I've never used that, but it's way better than the other transparency materials I've used. I print on an inexpensive HP photo printer and I get great ink adhesion with very smooth transitions. I followed the instructions in the package and chose glossy photo as my paper setting. I also set the printer to the maximum setting for ink application and printer head pass time. I bumped up the dpi to maximum as well. The only problem I see is that it's very difficult to determine the "rough" side of the sheet. You have to feel both sides and it's a very subtle difference. --Mike
lex_jenkins
Donald, the b&w alternative process forum, which was merged into the b&w film and printing forums awhile back, have long accommodated a melding of technologies such as creating large transparencies using digital methods for printing onto light sensitive papers. Our only request is that some stage of the process substantially involve light sensitive film, paper or otherwise relevant media or processes. We lost some participation in the alt process forum because some members felt discouraged by criticism that their interests were either not sufficiently "alternative" enough or did not adhere strictly to traditional methods and materials. I'd rather err on the side of inclusiveness than lose participation due to nebulous definitions of what does or does not belong here.

lex_jenkins
Hey, thanks for understanding and contributing your experience here! We need veterans. More and more of our new participants are also brand new to b&w photography and processing, so we need folks like you who can pass along what they know.
