blog = web log. Some folks use blogs as online diaries. Some take a more literal approach and use them to log information - some radio listeners and other specialty hobbyists do this for the purpose of communicating catches and conditions with other hobbyists. Journalists have used 'em to write about side issues, details and filler that didn't make their officially filed stories. Cultural, political and scientific pundits use 'em for everything from brief observations to essays.

 

More and more the blog is beginning to resemble a combination personal website, including favorite photos, videos, audio files, etc.

 

What blogs share in common are:

 

1. Frequent updates. Daily is common. Several times a week or month are also normal. Less often than monthly, it's probably not a blog.

 

2. Interactive nature. Most blogs permit and even encourage comments from readers. A few don't, usually due to perceived harassment from readers.
